The Times They Are A Changin’ Or Are They??
I posted this on Malakye.com forum a while back and it seems like an appropriate first post for the 5691gerg.com blog….
It seems that every day there are new Internet based marketing tools being developed and touted in the media. And, it sure is easy to get all excited about them and want to jump right in. A recent article about Second Life (a virtual world where people can create their own virtual selves as well as connections to other virtual people) ends with a statement that brings us back to reality.
“…it is important to remain focused on key communication objectives and the return on any marketing investments. The game of marketing might be changing, with a host of exciting new opportunities such as YouTube and Google, but the key questions remain the same. Whether you build brands with virtual stores, online ads or traditional media, you had better be able to explain why you invested your budget that way. Try doing it any other way and you are virtually guaranteed to be out of job — in the real world, at least.”
The more things change, the more they stay the same. The “boring” analysis and strategy comes first – the media selection and creative comes later.
